Once a few Indians were sent to see the functioning of some factories in America. A factory officer, pointing to a special machine, said, "If you want to know about this machine, you will have to climb it on a 75 foot high staircase." The oldest person representing the Indians said, "Well, we just climb up". By saying this, the person quickly proceeded to climb the ladder. Most people were scared by the height of the ladder and some people got back with that person. Soon after the machine was inspected, the man came down. Only three other people did that work. This person was none other than Dr. M. Vishwaswaraya, who was also known as Sir MV.

MV is an outstanding contributor to making Karnataka a developed and prosperous region of Mysore, South India. About 55 years ago, when the country was not independently, many other great accomplishments, including the Krishnarajasagar Dam, Bhadravati Iron and Steel Works, Mysore Sandal Oil and Soap Factory, Mysore University, Bank of Mysore, and MV were possible only with a strong effort. That is why they are also called Bhagiratha of Karnataka. When he was only 32 years old, he prepared a plan to send water to the Sukkur town from the Indus river, which all the engineers liked. The government created a committee to find ways to improve the irrigation system. For this, MV has invented a new block system. He built steel doors that helped prevent the flow of water from the dam. His system was praised by British officials for free. Today this system is being used in the whole world. Visvesvaraya made plans to build water of two rivers named Moses and Issa. After this he was appointed Chief Engineer of Mysore.

At that time the condition of the state was very bad. Visvesvaraya was also concerned about the basic problems of people such as illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, disease etc. Due to lack of factories, reliance on rain water for irrigation and the use of conventional means of farming, the problems were similar. To solve these problems, Visvesvaraya suggested the formation of an economic conference. Created the Krishna Rajsagar dam in Mysore. During the construction of Krishnarajasagar Dam, cement was not built in the country, for which engineers prepared mortar which was stronger than cement. In 1912 Visvesvaraya was appointed by the Maharaja of Mysore as Chief Minister.

Visvesvaraya understood the importance of education as well. The main reason of the poverty and difficulties of the people was that he considered illiteracy. During his tenure, he increased the number of schools in Mysore state from 4,500 to 10,500. With this, the number of students also reached from 140,000 to 3,66,000. Visvesvaraya is also credited for opening a separate hostel and first first grade college (Maharani College) for girls in Mysore. In those days all the colleges of Mysore were affiliated to the University of Madras. Due to their unremitting efforts, the University of Mysore was established which is one of the oldest universities in the country. Apart from this, he also arranged for scholarship to go abroad to study the best students. He also opened several agricultural, engineering and industrial colleges.

He believed the industry to be the country's life, so he developed more pre-existing industries like Silk, Sandal, Metal, Steel etc. with the help of experts from Japan and Italy. To meet the need of funds, he opened Bank of Mysore. This money used to be used in the development of industry. Visvesvaraya Diwan retired in 1918. Apart from others, Visvesvaraya served the country for 44 years and remained active. After ten years of retirement, the Bhadravati steel factory stopped after the flood in the Bhadra river. The general manager of the factory, who was an American, asked for six months time to restore the situation. That is what Viswesvaraya looked very much He immediately removed the person and trained Indian engineers, replacing all the foreign engineers. Visvesvaraya started work in this direction in 1935, in the mind of the owner of Automobile and Aircraft Factory in Mysore. Bangalore-based Hindustan Aeronautics and Mumbai's premier automobile factory are the result of their efforts. In 1947, he became president of the All India Manufacturing Association. To get rid of the flood of Orissa rivers,
