When is Lakshmi Puja celebrated?
Lakshmi Puja falls of the Amavasya day or the New Moon Day of Krishna Paksha. This day is selected as per the Vikram Samvat Hindi Calendar month of Ashwin and is regarded as the most important day of Diwali.

It is said to be the third day of the 5-day celebrations of Diwali.

The Story Behind Lakshmi Puja
As per the historical mythology, Goddess Lakshmi is the wife of the Lord Vishnu.

She is known to the Goddess of wealth and therefore all those who stay devoted to her- will find financial peace in their lives.

She is said to visit all the homes of her devotees if she is pleased with them, their pujas, prasad's and other rituals.

It is said that if she is happy, then the family will be blessed with gifts and wealth of all kinds.

Lakshmi Devi symbolizes wealth and prosperity. As per the belief, once Goddess Lakshmi blesses her devotees, people can live a comfortable life and that will make them happier and healthier.

On the Diwali night, Lakshmi will enter Earth and visit the homes of people. During this time, people decorate, pray and prepare for her entry into their homes.

At this time of the year, apart from Goddess Lakshmi, other Gods like Kubera, Ganeshan are also prayed to- depending on the state and their individual family culture.

In some places, this puja comprises of five deities and they include:

Ganesha is given due importance and is considered as the great Vighneshvara.

Mahasaraswati: The Goddess of Learning and Books

Rituals of Diwali Lakshmi Pooja| Lakshmi Puja Vidhi

If it is Lakshmi Puja, then you must focus on keeping the house and its surroundings very clean.

On Diwali night, the house is lit with lights and lamps that are known as Diyas.

People buy and wear new clothes to welcome Goddess Lakshmi.

Women, especially the mothers of every household are given a lot of importance on this day.

They are regarded as an earthy and blessed form of Goddess Lakshmi and their health and happiness are of utmost importance to any household.

One of the important components of any ritual is the Vaibhava Lakshmi Vrat and the vrat is taken on this day- so that people get the blessings for about 21 times.

Avoid Goddess Tulsi at this time!

Also, note that you should never pray to Goddess Tulsi while praying to Goddess Lakshmi. This is because Tulsi is the wife of Shaligram, who is an avatar of Lord Vishnu. It is believed if you do pray, you may lose the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.

Pray to Lord Vishnu

You need to include a prayer to Lord Vishnu- who happens to be the husband of Goddess Laxmi.

People enjoy exchanging gifts, burst crackers, enjoy loads of sweets and visit families, friends, and relatives on this day.

In some places like Nepal, people purchase silver and gold, bronze utensils as it denotes prosperity and happiness in the household.
